Privacy/Data Protection Policy

Every member of PWSG is required to complete forms that ask for personal data including medical information relevant to swimming. The details you provide are used solely for the purposes of your swim school membership and will never be used for commercial or marketing purposes. Your details are securely held in both hard copy and electronic form.  This places a responsibility upon PWSG to protect this information in relation to the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”).

This Data Privacy Policy describes the way in which PWSG deals with the information and data you provide in order for us to manage your membership. We will process any personal data provided to us or otherwise held by us relating to you in the manner set out in this Privacy Policy. Information may be provided via the forms you fill in when joining, telephone calls, emails or any other means.

PWSG complies with its obligations under the “GDPR” by keeping personal data up to date.  This includes storing and protecting personal data and destroying information no longer required securely.

The information and data which PWSG may collect, use and process includes the following:

  •  The information you provide to us by filling in forms, contacting us and any information you submit to us via email, text message, voicemail or telephone.

  • Records of correspondence, whether via email, telephone or other means.


PWSG staff who have access to swim school members personal data must comply with the following.

Data must be:

  • Fairly and lawfully processed.
  • Processed for limited purposes.
  • Adequate, relevant and not excessive.
  • Information must be accurate, secure and remain confidential.
  • Kept no longer than necessary.
  • Processed in accordance with the data subject’s rights.
  • PWSG staff are aware of the implications of disclosing personal information.
  • Once a customer ceases to belong to PWSG their personal data is maintained for a maximum of seven years for tax purposes.  After this time it is deleted from PWSG records data base.


 

Equality, Diversity, Inclusion Policy

PWSG is committed to treating everyone equally, regardless of age, level of ability or disability, gender, marital and civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or any other relevant characteristic.

Sports equality is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognizing inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

PWSG is committed to ensuring that everyone has the right to enjoy sport in an environment free from threat of discrimination, intimidation, harassment and abuse. We have a responsibility to challenge discriminatory behaviour and to promote equality of opportunity.  We will deal with any incidents of discriminatory behaviour seriously and will be dealt with accordingly.

Inclusion:

All PWSG teachers are encouraged to observe and adapt teaching practices to make sure all lessons are fully inclusive. Teaching children and adults of all backgrounds and abilities how to be confident, competent and safe in the water.

 

 

Safeguarding Policy

In line with Swim England

Our Safeguarding Policy ensures that children and young people have the right to be provided with a safe, secure and positive environment in which they can learn to swim and develop their full aquatic potential. The responsibility to safeguard children does not belong to any one person but instead belongs to everyone who plays a part in delivering sporting activities. Wavepower is a document produced by Swim England, intended for anyone involved in these activities and offers practical guidance and information on mandatory requirements and good practice.

Statement of principles;

  • All of PWSG Swimming Teachers have undertaken the appropriate safeguarding training and have up-to-date DBS checks.
  • Ensure that all individuals who work with children at PWSG, whether paid or voluntary, provide a positive, safe and enjoyable experience for children.
  • PWSG recognise that children and young people have a right to enjoy their involvement in aquatics in a safe environment and be protected from harm, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability.

  • PWSG will promote the positive aspects of sport and has a zero-tolerance approach to the use of inappropriate or abusive language, inappropriate relationships, bullying, harassment, discrimination or physical violence.
  • Any unknown person in the pool area will be asked by staff members to confirm which child they are accompanying.  If this is not forthcoming or is unsatisfactory, they will be asked to leave the premises.
  • The Welfare Officer is Becky and with the necessary skills and training as outlined by SE who will take the lead in dealing with all child safeguarding matters raised within the organisation.
  • Ensure that all individuals who will be working or will work with children at PWSG have been recruited in accordance with SE Safe Recruitment Policy.
  • Ensure that all individuals at PWSG who work with children have the appropriate training, follow the code of conduct and good practice in line with the guidance in Wavepower.
  • Parents/Carers can discuss with a member of staff any concerns they may have about a child’s welfare in a safe and confidential manner.
  • Becky will take the lead in dealing with all child safeguarding matters raised within the swim school. Health and Safety Policy:

PWSG will take all the necessary steps to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all individuals in the pool area.

Pool Layout:
Dimensions of the pool:
Length – 20 metres                                                                                                           
Width – 7 metres                                                                                                          
Shallow Depth (shallow end) -   0.9 metres (3’0’) up to half way.                                                                       
Maximum Depth (deep end) – 1.7 metres (5’6’) slopes off to this depth.

  • At each corner there are steps for access.

  • There is a metal handrail close to the water and the pool perimeter.
  • The pool is illuminated by floodlights.
  • There is emergency lighting should an electrical power cut occur.
  • The pool has disabled access.


Chemicals, water & air temperatures:

  • School support staff are trained to monitor and record the pool chemicals and temperature levels three times a day. The water temperature controls are set at a minimum of 29deg C and a maximum of 31deg C.
  • The heat reclamation unit is set to allow the air temperature to stay within 1 deg C of the water temperature.


PWSG are advised by the school before 3pm on the day, if there is a problem with the pool.  We will not use the pool if we feel the health and safety standards are not met.

General Health & Safety:

  • No outdoor shoes are allowed on poolside, please take shoes off or use the shoe covers provided.
  • Pool users with long hair must have it tied back. We do keep a supply of hair bands on poolside if needed.  Please ask the lifeguard before the start of lesson if one is required.
  • If your child wears goggles, please ensure they are able to put them on and remove them safely.
  • In case of emergency, and if an evacuation is necessary, please stay calm and follow the guidance of the staff.
  • During the course of the term, if your child suffers from any gastric illnesses you should keep them off swimming for a minimum of 48 hours after their last episode.
  • For all contagious illnesses, please do not attend until symptom free.
  • Smoking is not permitted within the school grounds.
  • Teachers hold either a Lifeguard qualification or The STA Safety Award for Teachers

All individuals within the Swim England aquatic disciplines will at all times:


  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person, be they adult or child, treating everyone equally within the context of the sport.
  • Adhere to the rules and laws in and out of the pool, incorporating the concept of friendship and respect for others.
  • Promote the positive aspects of the sport and never condone the use of inappropriate or abusive language, inappropriate relationships, bullying, harassment, discrimination or physical violence.
  • Accept responsibility for their own behaviour and encourage and guide all individuals of the swim school to do the same.
  • Ensure all concerns of a child safeguarding nature are referred in accordance with Wavepower (Swim England ((ASA) Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures).
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that takes all reasonable measures to protect their own safety and the safety of others.
  • Promote the reputation of the sport and never behave or encourage or condone others to behave in a manner that is liable to bring the sport into disrepute.
  • Adhere to Wavepower the Swim England Child Safeguarding Policy and Procedures.
  • Adhere to the Swim England Anti-Doping Rules.
  • Adhere to the Swim England Equity Policy.
  • Adhere to the Swim England Laws and Regulations.
  • Adhere to the Swim England Codes of Conduct.

Changing Room Policy:

Please note changing rooms aren’t monitored, so please bring valuables onto poolside with you. PWSG cannot be held responsible for any lost or damaged items.
Children aged 8 years and above must change in the changing room relevant to their gender.
Adults with children who are under 8 years of age, should change their children in the area relevant to the adults own gender.

 
ADULT MALES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE FEMALE CHANGING AREAS.                                                                          

ADULT FEMALES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE MALE CHANGING AREAS.

 
Please ensure that your child(ren) use the changing rooms to get changed in and not on poolside.
All children under 8 must be accompanied in the changing room and toilet.
If your child needs assistance in changing, but is too old to go in the opposite gender changing room, please inform the manager and the disabled changing room can be made available.
